Personal name, from Latin, Clara means bright, shining, clear.
 

Etymologically, the name Clara is linked to the adjective “clear”. The adjective “clear” goes back to c. 1300, meaning "giving light, shining, luminous, transparent, free from impurities, and innocent.” It also means “readily understood, manifest to the mind.” 

 

In Middle English clear means “beautiful, magnificent, excellent" (also from c. 1300); as well as “of possession or title, unconditional, and absolute.”
